Cleaning dusty vents

Any suggestions for how to clean air vents for heating/cooling vents inside the truck?? You can smell dust when system is running.

I saw a product at a Canadain store, and I know the chain is not in the USA, but it was with all the air freshener products. It was an aerosol can, and it was called something like "Vent Fresh" and it claimed to remove dirty foul smells from vents. I would look at replacing the air filter in the cabin if you have one, and try spraying a bit of cleaner like "Spray 9" or something like that, un-diluted into the vents. Spay a bit of compressed air after it. There are also some smoke relief products that will help eliminate odours, and may be of some help too. When I used to detail cars for a full time job, we used very high presure air to flush out vents, put that is up to personal chioce, and to be done with caution. Try masking the problem first and see if you are happy with the results. I am still looking for a solution on how to get rid or the odd smell from the heat box when A/C is used often in the summer!

If you are talking about just the vents, 97-03 and 04+ you can just pop the vent assembly off, sometimes the whole plastic peice behind it, and clean it with a damp rag and some Q-tips. If you are getting a musty smell could be the whole tubing network behind the vent itself, and then your talking alot more work to clean out.

I just blow the air at full blast and use a small paint brush ( like half inch wide brissles & 1" long ) and get it all out, I do this BEFORE I do the whole interior ofcoarse

Yes you can take the cover off. Also for the musty smell just place on max a/c and below the glove box you'll see where the intake is. Place fan on high and give a couple of shoots of Fabreze with the enzyme additive. Let it run for a minute then shut off and let truck sit with windows open.
The foam cleaner you speak of requires that you get the tube off the can as close to the coils as possible....not an easy thing for Fords.
