2006 F-150: Need Help Tightening Lighter

I have a Belkin Ipod fm-transmitter plugged into the lighter of my '06 F-150 supercrew 4x4. The player supports the Ipod via a stiff gooseneck, but it depends on the lighter not being able to spin. My lighter has loosened up from off roading with the Ipod in the charger, and now I need to tighten it up.

My question is, how do I get behind it on the dash board? Do I have to take the dash off or can I get to it some easier way? If I do have to take the dash off, any tips on that?

Thanks in advance,

Jimmy

Hey Jimmy. There are 8 clips on the Center Bezel, 3 on each side and 2 at the bottom that secure the Bezel to the dash. No screws, it just "pops" out and back in. The Clips fit into slots in the Dash. They are push in clips and can be lifted loose from the Dash with a Trim Stick or a Gasket Scraper. Be sure to put a rag on the dash itself under the Gasket Scraper while you gently pry the bezel loose enough so you can grab it with your finger tips and "pop" it off. Also, the rag will give you a little leverage. When you have the ones on the top side a little loose, you can "pop" them all loose with a sharp, short yank..Some of the clips will stay on the dash rather than come off with the Bezel. Pull them off the Dash and put them back on the Bezel before you reinstall the Bezel. The Airbag Light, AC Controls and Fan Speed and of course the Lighter all have wiring quick connects that you can disconnect after looking at them to find the release tabs. That'll make it easier to access the Lighter housing. The Lighter and it's little oblong bezel are held onto the Center bezel with 4 plastic tabs, 2 above the lighter and 2 below. It will be easier to fool with the Lighter with the little Lighter Bezel off the Center Bezel. And, it will probably all be for nothing anyway as the Lighter is just help in with some flimsy ears rather than something you can screw tighter and doesnt look like it can be re-tightened...I'll see if I can email you a pic of the back side of the Center Bezel off the truck so you can tell where the 8 clips are located. Good Luck, Buddy.
