Bench seat to racing seats
Bench seat to racing seats
Hey guys,
How hard would it be to put in racing seats in the place of a big old bench seat in a 1987 Ford F150? Anyone have experience doing something like this before?
I was able to find this example on the internet, some guy did this to a late 80's F150 but didn't explain how he did it:

I'm sure getting the bench seat out won't be much of a problem, but how about mounting brackets and such for the racing seats that I would like to get?
If anyone could help me out in any way I would really appreciate it!
Thank you in advance;
Andrew

Sorry again but it's been almost 4 weeks. :|
One last time: from bench to 2 racing seats. What will I need to do the job? How hard will it be? How long will it take?
I would really appreciate if some people could reply and help me.

I installed a APC racing seat into my 2000 F150 ExtCab driver side only. I was too cheap to buy the new brackets so I used the Ford ones. Which fit but the seat can't slide. Took about 2 hours total time. You need those stubid special sockets to get the seat bolts out.

Seats, brackets etc. Google is your friend since there are several companies out there that make brackets for F150s.
Note that APC seats are cheap chinese made crap. Don't buy those. I'd go with Sparco over APC. Of course Recarros are 'teh Bombz' but your wallet will desintegrate with the prices.

In your 87 would be the same as in my 88. You would have to pull your bench out, and when you buy the racing seats, buy the brakets with them. set the seat all the way back on the slider rail, and leaned back to your comfort. wherever the bolt holes line up at on the floorboard, drill the holes out with a large enough bit, and run a bolt through. Get under the truck and tighten down with a nut. That's how I would do it if I get around to getting the seats.

Thanks for your posts guys.
So for starters I will need to get a special socket to get the seat bolts out? Where can I pick one of these "special" ones up, at a hardware store or something?
Where do I get the brackets?
How on earth do I get under the truck to tighten them down with a nut? I didn't even know you could get to them from down there.
