Gear shift handle for 2004 F150

The plastic cap on the top of the gear shift broke off today... does anyone know where I can find an aftermarket gear shift to replace it? Mine is an '04 automatic trans... gear shift on the center console. Thanks!!

I had the same problem and simply super glued it back on carefully.

I do not recall seeing an aftermarket shifter handle available.

Good Luck!

Digging up an old post. Mine broke today. There was a guy here going to do an aluminum one, but ran into liabilty issues and never produced them. The Ford engineers that designed the shifter handle and the ones that approved the design should be fired IMO!

The top will pop off if you don't do it right, takes a few tries with different glue compound. The shift lever/button gets stuck every now and then. Be very f'in careful with your stock spring loaded button, it's pretty fragile. Mine broke and I fabricated a bracket and spring to hold it in place. Dremeling out the new LT shifter is the fun part, but time consuming and dirty. Just be careful because you might have a skeletal stick for a shifter if you don't do it right. If you've seen the 06 Explorers, they have a leather shifter, which is a bit taller and rigged a bit differently. I'm sure you could do that as well, find out which you like better (LT looks nicer if you ask me).

Unfortunately I didn't come up with it, Purpony did and there is a thread in the 04-06 forum about it.

Plastic Cap on Gear Shifter

2004 FX4

Mine broke today. Superglue didn't work, what's the part #? How do I ask for the part at the local dealership?

Thanks!

My top cap came off too. No amount of careful gluing would put it back. Went to dealership and found part was $75.00. That seemed a bit steep but had them put it on as I was also having the AC fixed and getting a new set of tires.

I just got the bill and saw the labor for changing the shifter ****... $95.00. Apparently it's a lot harder than it looks to replace it. I guess I should have asked (or looked) before leaping.
