removing cubbyhole under radio

Does anyone know how to remove the little cubby hole box that sits under the radio. I have a 06 screw xlt. I want to run the wires for a trailer brake behind it then put the cubby back in with my trailer brake mounted in there, just something to keep it off the dashboard and away from my legs. thanks

That's what I did in my 04 XL. Remove the radio cover by pulling it off the dash. Be careful about the seat belt light if there is one. Then, you need to remove the two screws that hold in the cup holder. The cup holder and the cubby hole come out together. They'll separate when they're out of the dash.

Drill your mounting holes, and a hole for the controller wire in the cubby hole and mount the bracket. Install the wiring, and place it through the cubby hole. Reassemble the dash and you're good to go.

The only thing that wasn't perfect is that there is a plastic projection right where the wire should go. Don't remove it! Drill the hole to one side and mount the controller far enough out of the cubby hole to allow the wires to be in the back of the controller and snake to the left and out. You'll see what I mean when you get it out.

It does end up as an ideal place for the controller though.

Good luck

Me, too, except the cubby in mine is below the cupholder (column shift, not console shift).
