Did you pull the covers off and look in the holes?

Yea, but what am I looking at? Those arent simple screws. They appear to be screwed in from inside the body. That cant be right though.

Pull off the caps located at the ends of the handle. There is a 5/64 inch hex head screw. You will need a nut driver or a thin walled socket because the screw is deep inside the small pocket.

How ugly are those holes going to be once the handle is removed? What would be the best way of plugging them up?

I thought it was an 8 MM ( or is that 6MM ??).
5/64" would make it less then 2MM, a bit on the small size for a grab handle bolt head....

5/64 = .078125"
25.4 mm=1"
25.4mm X 078125 = 1.984375 MM ( less then the thickness of 2 dimes ).

slightly off topic but not worthy of a new thread..

i want to add a driver's side handle on my 99, and it looks like i can just buy another passenger's side handle... has anyone done this and can verify for me?

also what years used the same style handle as the 99? maybe i can find a good condition salvage yard one.

From what I can tell looking at trucks around, the '99 and '00 A pillar seem the same. The P/N for the AutoGauge Pillar Pod is the same, so if I were to extraplate this to mean the shape is the same as the others, then you could get a bone yard A pillar cover, and grab handle.

The thing becomes, where do you bolt it to ?

I would think lining it up, and CAREFULLY drilling the A pillar on the inside and taping it or adding in expansion anchors to bolt the handle to might work. I have not tried this, if you have a bone yard around with a '99, maybe ask them if you can try this, or just go out and look at it, and drill in, and see if it works. If I am remebering correctly, the threaded part of the A pillar is like a nut that is welded into the A pillar, so it uses more then the metal of the A pillar to support it.

Sorry I don't have a better answer, without actually doing drilling it, and seeing if the room is there, I could not tell.

NOTE : I do not know what this procedure would do to the structureal integreity of the A pillar and roof. Might not be good, might not hurt, I have no idea either way.
