seat cover removal

What is the best method for cleaning factory seat covers ?
I run heavy equipment, and I try to keep them clean but after time they still show dirt. Is removal hard to do? will they shrink if theyre just put in the washer? please help.

I had vinyl seats in my 2005 F150 XL 4x4. I purchased used cloth seat upholstery. I received them in very good condition, but they had stains. I used oxi-clean stain treatment for fabric. I sprayed the stains and scrubbed them with a brush. I rinse them throughly using the stream setting on my garden hose nozzle. I then put them in the washer on the spin cycle for about 3 minutex to remove the excess water. After air drying for a couple hours, they were perfectly clean. No trace of the stains were left.

I ended up with another set of covers when I purchased a center seat. The seller threw in his seat covers free. These also were badly stained. I took this set to the laundry mat and washed them in a huge washer that did not have an agitator. After washing them, I put them in the dryer. They cleaned-up great, but some of the threads at the seams came loose.

The first method I used is my recommendation.

As far as removing your covers, it is somewhat time consuming, but not hard. There are several hog rings that need to be cut and completely removed to get the covers off. To replace the covers you will need new hog rings and pliers.

I followed instructions offered by ChrisAdams. They were a huge help. His instructions are posted on this forum. Pictures of my upholstery are in my gallery if you want to check them out.

Good luck and let me know if you need anything else.
