Thumbs down noisey power window

I am about to take off the door panel of my 2001 crewcab F-150. Does anybody have any idea what can be making a bad racheting noise when the window goes up and down? What to look for?

I have had this problem a few times and the dealer's fix was to replace the power window motor assembly.

Ratcheting or clicking is usually a window regulator problem. You can try adjusting the window runs by running the window all the way up, loosening the 11mm bolts that hold the runs to the door and running the window all the way down and then tighten the bolts. Spray some white grease or similar onto the regulator where the tracks run that connect to the glass. This may temporarily solve the problem, but ultimately you're probably gonna need a new regulator to totally fix it.

I am having a similar problem with my 2001 F150 4x4. I have never removed the inside door panel before, can anyone enlighten me on how to do it without destroying the panel?

Pry loose the small piece around inside door handle and remove the screw holding door panel to door. Grab the vertical plastic piece on door just to the rear of the window glass and pull loose. You will find another screw holding the panel to the door. Remove this screw. Grab the door panel with both hands and pull straight up. Do not pull outward as the hook type door clips may break. Hope this helps.

I did mine over the summer...

And the main noise is coming from the spring in the regulator- it gets dry I guess and gets noisy. I removed the door panel, the inside liner and that gave me access to the regulator. I sprayed the entire spring, all contact points and the slides with an industrial lube we use here at work for high-pressure applications. Plus this stuff is a waterproofing agent as well so it will help prevent any rust. Once the door was reassembled the noise was pretty much gone. The passenger side never has made any noise- I think it's just how much the window gets used.
