Manual Lumbar Support

Can someone please tell me how I can replace the cable for the manual lumbar support on a f150? It quit working awhile back, and I took the seat cover off and discovered that the cable is broken. I have looked all over the freakin' web, even at the Ford website, and cannot seem to find this part. Can I buy this single part or do I have to buy the whole assembly?

Had the same problem. Just like a brake cable on a bike only the inner has failer. And thats what I fixed my seat with. Take the old inner to a local bike shop to get a simular "ended" cable and a screwon clamp. should work fine.

Cool broken lumbar support

Mine too! Only it wasn't the cable, it was a little hook that allowed the cable to "squeeze" the plastic support together making it more convex (flexing it toward the driver's back). The thing just snapped- and it's metal! God- stinking Ford. And of course, you have to buy the whole mechanism (95 bux!) to replace a two-bit part ---

This was the first American auto I'd bought since 1980 (2000 f150 SC 2wd) and I'd be hard pressed to buy another Ford! I've had so many annoying little things go wrong. If it wasn't for this board, I would've sold her long ago!

Thanks for all the info guys!

Spike

Ok, I fixed it yesterday! Here's what I did. My original cable had broken right below the point where it splits and goes up and connects to the two places on the lumbar assembly. I found two old bicycles that we didn't use, and cut equal lengths of brake cable off of them. I ran these through the holes on the lumbar assembly, just like the factory ones were, and used some sort of clamp/tightening thing I found in my toolbox to connect and crimp the two new wires with the old one. So far it's working like a charm.

How do you get into seat cover?

I have a 97 Lariat with 60/40. I'm afraid of tearing up my seat cover. Any help would be appreciated.

If you will stick your hand down into the crease of the seat (the reclining part) where the bottom part of your seat meets the top reclining part, you should be able to feel a plastic channel that goes the entire width of your seat. Your top seatcover is held in place by this channel. All you have to do is apply a little pressure and separate it. It's hard to put into words.

It's kind of like this: <> and you just separate the two. They're engrooved with one another.

After that, just gently work your seat cover up and off of the seat frame. The foam under the seat comes off with it, so don't freak out.

Thanks man!!!

I've been afraid to touch it because of my fear of screwing up the seat.
