Exclamation Wire Poking Through Captains Chairs

All of our (The Company's) 99 and 2000 with captains chairs have a wire that pokes up(and evetually thru ) the seats on both sides. The location of the paper coated wire is aprox. 3" in from the outside and about 8-10" from the front of the seat. if you push sideways on the seat you will feel it. we have had three of our trucks actually poke through and caught on our employees legs. causing a minor cuts. However if they had been wearing shorts instead of full length jeans we feel that a greater injury may have occured. It takes Ford about 30 minutes to fix the problem if it has not ripped the seat cover, if it is ripped it is a factory order item and will take about 2-4 months for the seat cover. Does any one else have this problem? If so, contact Ford, As usual the three dealers we dealt with all played stupid not showing that the were aware of any problem with the seats.

Talking

I got bite by the seat just last month. I was lucky I had jeans on that day. We had one truck in last year for the same problem but it was a little further down the seat. He did get it in the sensitive area, he to was wearing jeans at the time. When I went in to the dealer up here he said that it was the first time he had heard of it. I took him out to his predelivery area and showed him three new units with the plastic on that had this problem. He was a little moer red faced when we looked at his used section, ones he thought were cigarette burns were holes caused by the wire.

Cool

Oh great! I have been pursuing captains chairs for my truck for about a year to replace my 60/40. This is lovely news. Why does Ford use the worst seats in the world for these trucks. My Explorer is perfectly comfortable. Lots of support, quality materials, power lumbar and they don't have any faults. This seat issue pisses me off so much sometimes it's hard not to get rid of the truck because of it. Several people on Edmunds Town Hall have the same complaints but no one here seems to notice. I cannot locate captains chairs (that match anyway) and I refuse to go through any further frustration only to have this "wire through the seat" problem. FYI, the plastic trim panel surrounding the lumbar/recline controls on the 99-00 60/40 will break with the slightest pressure causing loss of support in the seat cushion.

I suspect one day in the not-so-distant future I will get in this truck and get aggravated enough to go for a spin in either a V-8 Explorer or a SuperDuty. The one with the best seats will win. I love the overall drivability and looks of my F-150 but the seats are a real PITA!

Ford, design some seats with decent lateral back and thigh support, power lumbar and better materials for this best seller. GOOD GAWD!

Question

I will have to go look, but has anyone heard of this same problem with the leather captains chairs (2001 SCrew)? I do agree that the seats seem to be less than optimal for passenger comfort.

I am also wondering if someone has had this problem with the leather captains chairs on the SCrew. I find the captains chairs very comfortable. I just took a trip camping which included about a 4 1/2 hour drive and for the first time in a long time my a** wasn't sore. This is usually the case with my wife's '98 Accord. I went with my wife, daughter, and sister-in-law and none of them complained either (the rear A/V unit helped greatly!). I just hope I don't have the misfortune of having a defective seat "damaging" me while entering my truck.

4 1/2 hour drive with 3 women in the cab??? No wonder you didn't notice your sore butt, your head was probably screaming.

Well Ford had replaced the covers and foam on both sides back in July. Now with 48,000km Ford is again replacing he covers and foam because of those damn wires that are poking thru. As well as replacing both doors because of cracks.
