Musty A/C
and, about those vents. Are they ones at the back of the cab near the bottom? I've got the 'tool tray' Ford later discontinued and it covers the area where these vents would enter, if these vents are those vents.
Thanks for allowing me to vent. (I think)

Ok, I'll relent to the folks from the South. While I do live in "Southern" California, and it does get humid here, this ain't Houston (thank God).
However. Assuming that after sitting in the sun for a few hours the humidity is the same inside and out, the only difference is the air temperature. And since it's easier to cool 90 deg.(outside) air than 115 deg. (inside) air it would make sense to use the "normal" A/C setting to start.
Aaaaand. Since it's easier to lower the temperature of cool dry air as opposed to hot humid air it would also make sense to use the "Max" setting the rest of the time. That said I'll just have to agree with that loopy engineer at Ford that devised the system and the instructions.
I have my doubts about the existence of those so called relief vents, since it's almost impossible to close the doors on my truck (without slamming it) with the windows all buttoned up.
As for Marv and Johnsc, you're right, this procedure will probably will cause mold to form. But since I started using the vent to dry it out before I stop, I haven't really noticed the smell. So we'll just have to agree to disagree. Agreed?

I agree w/ Tina. I run max a/c. When I'm ready to park somewhere, I run in panel mode at high fan. Without running panel, I get the smell, otherwise, no smell. If you don't do it all the time, and you've already got the smell, it'll take a couple of weeks for the odor to go away.
Also, R-12 was discontinued because the EPA is in bed with DuPont, whose patent on R-12 had run out. If you want better cooling, look at a product called Autofrost. http://www.autofrost.com
