Question Static shock from seats

Ok this is a new one for me.
Ever since I bought my truck, I get shocked while getting out when I touch the bare metal while closing the door.
The seat has a static build up like when you touch a TV screen. I've tried FreBreeze and Static Guard but it's only a temporary fix. It doesn't matter what type of clothes I wear. I'm alittle worried it screwing up the electrical system; like the dangers with static and computers. Any ideas?? I have 60/40 cloth bench seats.

My 99 does the same thing. It was REALLY bad up North in the winter...it isn't as bad since I got to FL, but it does still happen. I have wondered the same thing since it was new.....

mine does the same thing sometimes usually in
the winter. I think my scotch-gard fixed it.

I also get shocked every time I get out of my truck in the winter, or when it is cold. In the summer it doesn't though. I always have to remember to ground myself before I shut my door. I wish I could get it to stop though...

Stop by an office supply store and pick up an aerosol can of anti-static spray (used on carpets around computers) and spray your seat and carpet. Now that you mentioned it - I remember that my '97 would zap me so hard every time I got out that I was afraid it would damage my watch! Nick hasn't tried to elecrocute me yet.

Static Guard should also work, and is available in any supermarket. Seems like it'd be a pain to use all the time.

I just steel myself each time I get near the truck (or any car for that matter). I touch the paint before getting in. At least this way I KNOW the shock is coming!

Mine does the same thing,,I HATE fabric seats
I'm getting a leather seat when money allows.
The thing I hate the most though,is the anti
tuck feature. You know the lack of slide that
fabric has, pulls my shirt tail out without fail!! Plus the wonderful zap you get. A solution I've found is to close the door by pushing on the plastic outer handle. Good luck, I'm trying the static guard this winter.

LOL. My roomate loves to do that to me. We both like Chillie's. Everytime we go, he'll con me to take my truck. And every time we get out of the truck, I'll be extra careful to grab rubber and plastic stuff, then he'll come around the cab and poke at my arm. I cuss every time. I'm always the victim for a laugh. Try closing the door with your shoes (at the bottom). It's a habbit now. Also hate it when ladies ride. They give me this sad woose look. I have to bite my lip when the pretty blue zap comes. Thinking about buying those rubber/metal strips that hang off the bumber. Super Ghetto! Good thread fellas.

Oh, yeah, those rubber strips with the red reflectors.

Perhaps I can get some curb-feelers.

Hey, where can I get some fender skirts and a row of those dinglebobs that hang around the window?

I suppose the bobbing Chihuahua is out -- now that the little pooch has been 'fired' from Taco Bell!

Nah. That's a good thing. We can rehire him to open and close our doors for us. Let him get shocked. He can ground his self with his tail. (to stay on topic)

Alright. So what if I'm a little lame.

One simple solution but you have to make it a habit. Everytime you get out of the truck, holding your key at the end of the hard plastic part and touch the metal key to the side of the door. This grounds you out and you will even see and hear the static pop. Works everytime, especially down here in the south where things are really dry.
