Heater and Vent Odor

Heater and Vent Odor
Does anyone know of a product or way I can remove a nasty mildew odor that I get when I turn my heater on.
Odor is surprising considering it's a '99.
Thanks.

BG makes a chemical called Frigi-Fresh. It is sprayed into the "recirc" intake, and works very well!
It actually attacks and kills the mildew.

Crash1,
The abbreviation "BG" in your above post, what does it represent? I'd like to purchase a can of that frig-fresh, or whatever it is. That stale smell emitting from my trucks vents is terrible sometimes, I've used lysol to combat it, but it doesn't have a long lasting effect on it.
-kindest regards

Saw this on Auto Week with Pat Goss. Use the Lysol (comes in different aromas) Disenfectant. Raise the hood of your truck, start the engine, turn on the ac and make sure it is on fresh air and not recirculate. Then, right where your windshield wipers are (cowl of the truck), there are fresh air grills that you can reach from under the hood of the truck. Spray 1/2 can in each side.
I have done this and it works for about 6 months. Be ready to get a tired finger holding down the sray nozzel to empty the whole can.
Hoped this helped.

Isn't there an intake inside on the passenger side under the dash, for recycling air? The four Tauruses my bride has had always had that mildew odor. Ford people said there is a low spot in the system where water pools and mildews. Anyway, we sprayed the Lysol up under the dash with the air running on recycle and it always did the job for some time.

BG is the company name. I have always gotten it at the dealer. A BG rep goes to all the dealers. Ask the parts guy.
Yes, there is a recirc door, turn on your A/C in the normal position, lean down into the pass. side, and turn it to MAX A/C. You will hear the door open, and will hear the air rush in.
You will need to spray directly into the intake, and do it from 6-8" away. This will spread the chemical where it needs to be.
You do not need to use 1/2 of a can. This stuff works, and is really pretty strong. It actually kills the mildew.

Hey 'sport,
I read where the HVAC was actually designed to be running all the time. Leave your HVAC on "floor" or one of the other positions all the time. If it gets too cold or hot in there adjust the temp control. You will NEVER get the smelly ****pit anymore if you follow this. Good luck...
