Overhead Console..will this work?
Overhead Console..will this work?
I have a 1997 F150 and I want to put in an overhead console. I have been toying with this idea for a couple of years, and now just got up the time to do it. I got a overhead console from a Explorer and I want to see if it will work. I don't really want the big EXPY console, so I thought I would try this. First problem that I see is that my visors will need to be changed out. Secondly, (and more importantly) Is there an area above the headliner to actually mount to? I haven't tried to pull out my headliner just yet. Does anyone have any pics of the roof area with the headliner removed? Has anyone used an Explorer console in a F150 or am I just screwed, and should just scrub this idea?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris

I don't know which Explorer console you're referring to, but my sister's Explorer has an overhead console almost identical to my '02 F150 console. The one in my F150 is mostly supported by the headliner itself, a rather cheesy and insecure setup. I recently improved it by pulling the console and adding adhesive-backed velcro to the top of the console and the roof of the cab. Now the velcro holds the console to the roof so it isn't sagging and hanging on the cardboard headliner.
