Pen on soft vinyl....ouch

My daughter was doing some art work on back door of our 02 screw. Is a medium graphite grey soft vinyl on the door...the oval just above door handle.

What will get this out?

You could try spraying it with a little aerosol hairspray. This works with cloth but I see no reason it won't work on vinyl too. Usually with cloth you don't have to scrub just spray it and the ink will disappear. I've never used hairspray on vinyl before so you may want to test an inconspicuous area first to be sure it won't discolor it. I would also clean it and treat it with a protectant afterward to make sure the hairspray does not dry it out.

Good luck!

Somebody else had the same problem recently. I have heard that the Glipstick works well, but don't know personally.

Was it at least a nice drawing??

I'm assuming she was using a ball point pen or felt tip marker. I've tried a couple of different things and had success. One was Simple Green and the other a diluted solution of Murphy's Oil Soap.

Also Magna Doodle's are wonderful things for kids .

most pens are an alcohol base. So the pigments are soluable in alcohol. That's why sometimes hairspray works, it has alcohol in it but unfortunately there's also gooey sticky stuff in there as well.

Try methanol...the best source of it is Heet fuel line additive in the yellow bottle. Otherwise, you might try brake cleaner, test a small area first to make sure no harm will be done to the fabric or it's dye.

Both methanol and brake cleaner will leave no residue.

I'd bust out the Soft Scrub from the kitchen. A little dab 'el do ya and test in a small area first to ensure it doesn't harm the colors...

yea, i used soft scrub on the kick plate? (the plastic plate where you climb up into the truck) with good results.

You probably don't want the type with bleach built in, that could change the color...

I don't know if I would use the ME on the vinyl. It's like an abrasive, and may leave some discoloration, or a different texture. Just be super careful.

I would try the other methods first. The ME works great on the plastic trim on the 97-03s, but I have heard horror stories from people who used it on plastic trim on the newer models, and people who have used it elsewhere.

Just try it in a an incon..(yadda-yadda)

Yeah, I know... I just really hate that product now. It might work, but I'm too jaded to try it!
