Dye Tan Carpet Black Tips

I have a tan interior 1999 F150 xlt, and want to Change the interior to black.

As far as the carpet goes. It's in great condition and I wouldn't want to replace it. Rather I'd like to dye it black.

Any tips doing it would be greatly appreciated.

I did a search and didn't really get any good threads on it.

I should take out the seats and carpet and then dye it correcT?

Is it easy to take off and put the carpet back on without damaging it?

What kind of dye products would anyone suggest?

Thanks in advance!

Wow... I'd really consider just replacing the carpet versus dying it...

Also, this might be a bigger task than what you're giving it credit for... not to mention the odor involved with the flashing of the volatiles within any dye.

My suggestion, check with an automotive upholstery shop and get their opinion. They're in that business and should be able to point you in the correct/general direction. Good luck!

My friend just turned his carpet from tan to black with a spray bottle of ritz dye for clothing and a rag, it took two coats but it looks good. He also used leather dye to get in some areas cause it has a dabber tip. Hope this helps!
