The cigarette lighter/power outlet cover on my 97 regular cab has lost the hinge spring. So the cover is dangling. I got the replacement spring from a junk yard but cannot figure out how to install it. Should the cover be removed first?

 

I had mine fixed by the dealer as it was something that broke when I first bought mine new. He said they had to take the lower dash out to get it in from the back. I am not sure if that was the case as I did not see them do it, but I do know it took them over 2 hours to get it done.
