Guys,

I finally picked up a 40/20/40 seat for my 94 f150 to replace the bench. It's a little dirty and needs to be cleaned. I've pulled the covers off since the lumbar bag is busted on both. The seat is completely dis-assembled. Bare seat covers, no foam cushion pad attached.

What's the easiest way to clean the covers? Can I toss them in the washing machine? It looks like the thin foam backing might come off in the wash. Will they shrink if I let them soak in the wash and rinse them with the hose and air dry?

I'm just thinking there has to be an easier way than scrubbing a small area with the upolstery cleaner and wiping clean. Then repeating.

Any ideas?

 

You could probably have them dry cleaned although I am not sure how well dry cleaning actually works. I would probably just soak them in some warm water with a little laundry detergent and maybe lightly scrub with a brush. Then rinse with a hose and hang up in the sun or maybe set the washer to spin and throw them in and let them spin and then hang them up. On a side note I have not seen the inside so I dont know what the foam lining looks like...but on a 10 yr old truck there is a good chance that when they get wet the foam will start to fall apart. Just a thought...Good luck!

I'm a little concerned about the washing machine. I just don't want them to shrink any when they get completely wet.

machine wash on gentle cycle and hang to dry.

I have a feeling they are more durable than that so this is a starting point to check the durability of the fabric and stitching.

i wouldn't worry about shrinkage as these are designed to get wet (spilling drinks, window left open in the rain etc)


FYI. I throw my factory floor mats in the washing machine. You would be amazed at what you can wash these days (both item and the capability of the machines)
