Smoke Odour
Do any of you guys have a magical remedy for removing smoke odour from an interior?
My new2me 2000 XLT was owned by a smoker and although the dealership had it detailed I can still smell some smoke odour. I'm not super sensitive or anything but I would like my truck to smell as clean as it looks.
Thanks

I smoke the occasional cigar. I drive a 99 Lariat SC, but I have a 98 XL and 99 XLT-SC that are used on my farm. The Lariat has leather seats and the other two have cloth. If I smoke a cigar in the Lariat and leave the windows down overnight the stale cigar smell is non-existent the next day. If I smoke in either of the other trucks it takes weeks for the smell to dissipate - the guys that work for me raise hell about the smell (unless I share a cigar with them).
The headliner material is the same in all three trucks. The XL has a plastic floor liner but it is just as bad retaining the cigar smell. I think the seats are what retain the smell. You might try pulling the seat covers and having them dry-cleaned. Or upgrade to leather...
Good Luck,

I've heard of people using automotive Febreeze (sp?) with good success. Haven't tried it myself, so can't comment any more than that.
Nothing worse than stale cigarette smoke in a vehicle.....I'm a smoker myslef but haven't smoked (or allowed anyone else to) in my vehicles for years.

I think this has been addressed a couple of times before and there have been various remedies mentioned. Off the top of my head I can remember some mentioning a small wetvac over any areas of fabric, a dish of baking soda under the seat, and the automotive febreeze.
I haven't tried the automotive febreeze yet, but I do like the regular product used on my furniture - helps get rid of the smell of our dogs. As smelly as my dogs can get, however, it doesn't compare to smoke. You will probably need to try a combination of things (including letting the truck sit with the windows open overnight to air out.)
One product I can highly recommend is Ozium. I found a small spritzer of it in the auto section at wal-mart (i've seen it at target too.) They have a few different scents but I use "new car smell." I spritz a few shots into the carpet in the front and back every once in a while. I can attest to its durability as I just went on a trip to Florida for a week and left the truck parked at the airport. When I got back the first thing I noticed when I got in the truck was how clean it smelled - that stuff really held up well.
My truck hasn't been smoked in so it's tough to say how it would hold up against smoke - but it should do a good job of at least masking the scent.

I smoke cigars and I run an Ion/ozone generator which removes all smoke smell wonderfully. the one I use is a Neotec XJ2000. I use one in the Den in my house too. Here is a link where to get them: http://www.neotecstore.com/
my advise
My 2001 was heavily smoked in when I bought it.
Here is what I've done.
Take it to a detial shop, have them do an OZONE treatment on it, 2-4 hours worth.
Shampoo everything that is cloth, take out the seats and remove the fabric and wash. Then wipe down the entire interior with some strong cleaner with amonia in it.
Then, have the headliner recovered. Most places around Austin TX wanted 170 but I took it out myself (takes 20 minutes) and got it recovered like new for $70
I have used a Vinegar ans water mix, seems to eat the smoke smell and gets the smoke residue.
I have tried OZIUM and I also used an odor bomb

there are some pretty expensive solutions being provided.
Buy a green tree for $1 at the gas station.

I smoke like a chimney, but I can also smell the odor in the interior. Yes, it does stink, lol. I have found one product that really works, however. It comes in a triangle shaped small clear spray bottle. Has a golden retreiver puppy on the label. I believe it's made by Eagle-1, but not 100% certain. Anyway, this stuff works. Just spray all the cloth inside the interior with it, seats, carpet, headliner, everything. Then run the a/c in the fresh air mode(non MAX) and spray it liberally down the intake vent at the base of the windshield. For an added measure, shut the a/c off, and spray it directly into the vents in the dash.
It smells like strong cheap hairspray for a day or two, but once it fades you will smell nothing. It has even neutralized a vanilla "tree" I put in a day later. Good stuff, and cheap enough for anyone. Cleaning the hard surfaces of the interior is a good suggestion also. Do the glass, vinyl, everything! My Mom has ridden in my truck after this treatment, and even she could not smell smoke.
She asked me how I could smoke in the truck, and not stink it up.,,,,98

It's a Meguiar product
Yep, that's it! I don't know why I always think it's Eagle-1 that makes it. Must be the bottle shape? But that stuff is truly amazing. It used to come in a big wheel cleaner sized bottle, but it would take years to use that much, lol.,,,,98
I smoke a lot in my truck and have found that a dryer sheet under the seat does the trick. Also there is a new fabric spray like febreese made by FAB that smells a ton better than anything alse I have used, you can find it Wal-Mart in the laundry aisle.
