OEM Shift Knob Graphic
OEM Shift **** Graphic
I have noticed that on my stick **** in my 2002 f-150 XLT Supercab 5-spd V6, that the little graphic that tells you where to shift, is a little loose. Sometimes I will look down and its sideways. Even though this is something not major, it really annoys me. Has anyone noticed this and/or has a real easy fix so that it will quit spinning?
Yep, that happens a lot. You're not even forcing it and it just seems to move by itself. You could re-adjust the whole **** (not recommended as after a while the **** will no longer grip the stick tight) or use 2 fingers and push down and twist. Push and twist little by little will re-adjust the positioning of the gear# dial until it points to 12 o'clock again. Only neat freaks like me would notice something like that though. Yeah, I got issues..
so with pushing down and twisting, will that lock it into place, or will it just keep twisting? I hear you on keep the truck clean. I'm crazy, just because my 2002 is the first American, let alone my newest car ever, so I am very freakess , like you to keep my truck looking nice.
Pushing down won't lock it, the dial is pretty much "floating", that's why we have this issue in the first place. Just keep on pushing and twisting, sorta like the bezel of a diving watch, until it's in the position you want. Real simple.

I know I've seen some F-150s without the little gear guide mounted there indicating to me that it will come off if you need it to...
Not sure on the exact answer...just tossing an option on the table. *kerplunk*

glue it!
Haha, that's what I did! I used a small flathead screwdriver (like a jewelers or a #1 tip) to gently pry it out. The little disc with the graphic has only a small edge/rim around it that holds it in the shift ****. Then I used a thick adhesive like Liquid Nails -- when you remove the little disc, you'll see why thick adhesive is necessary, as it's design doesn't offer 2 nice flat surfaces for gluing -- to glue it back in place.
