Question King Ranch S-Crew Rear Bucket Seat Replacement?

Fellas,

I just purchased an 02 King Ranch Super Crew. I really just wanted an XLT supercrew w/ bench seats all around. However, I found a deal on the KR, which I just simply couldn't refuse.

I see that there have been a few posts out there which address swapping one of the rear bucket seat and console with either a bench seat or simply replacing the console with another bench seat (of the same KR leather). However, I don't see much success.

Has anyone had any success doing this? Is there anyone out there which would like to trade bucket seats for bench seats?

Are there any good aftermarket online stores which may have extra bucket or bench seats available?

I'm all for having to do some re-engineering if need be. I'm very
safety concious, and wouldn't half-azz it.

Other than the rear bucket seats, I LOVE the KR. Man, what'a ride.

This is my first post, so thanks in advance for everyone's help!

"KR" seats

Congrat's on the 'KING RANCH"! I've wanted on since I first saw one a an "auto show" in San Antonio. I ended up w/XLT S'crew w/bench seats in cloth. I am really satisfied with mine, but it sure isn't a K/R! I do wish I had the "seperate" buckets in the front of mine, as my wife sits with her side all the way back so i loose the arm rest (goes w/passanger side). Welcome and I'm sure you'll get some answers, as this is a great site for info' !!

Jason,

First and foremost, welcome to f150online.com and to KR ownership.

To directly answer your question, I'm 99% sure that the bolt patterns and such for the buckets vs. the bench are different and thus, would require some serious engineering such that the safety factor would still work out.

Feel free to browse down to the King Ranch forum and post your question but, I believe you'll get the same response.

Again, welcome aboard.

RockPic,

I have a feeling you're probably right. But, I'm not giving up just yet.

Before switching to Software Engineering, I used to be into Automotive Engineering, where I worked for Ford, and Panoz Auto for some time. I've designed and built several racecars from the ground up (as well as production cars) and am just and all around do-it-yourself-right-geeky kinda guy. Hence the reason I'm going to continue investigating the possibilities.

If I do come across a viable solution, I will be sure to take pics and put em' in a write for all King Ranchers on this forum to use.

Of course, this may take some time.

I'm going to measure tonight, but I believe adding another bucket seat where the console currently sits could work.

Then, I'd just have to ensure than the seat mounts in the floorpan were properly sized and secured.

Thanks for the help!

Jason

I meant to say 'write up' in the previous reply... I'll put it in a document in other words.

Good deal Jason. Sorry I wasn't more of a help but, I was just regergitating some information that I had read from past posts across the message boards.

Also, from the sounds of it, you have the technical background needed to make sure it would work right... I cringe to think what that KR rear bench is going to cost though...

You might check around to see if anyone would be willing to trade you their bench for your buckets on the KR boards... I know there have been a few that have come and gone with similar ideas.

Keep us posted and best of luck!

Hello kodiak2 and welcome to f150online.com! Further, welcome to KR ownership! I've had two over the past several years and it's hard to beat a castano leather interior in my opinion!

I noticed that this thread was originally 'spun' back in mid-late 2003. Since that time, several folks have investigated the rear seat/rear bench swap and have determined it to either be WAY too much work to make it happen (as they are not direct replacements) or that the safety issues were too great and thus, they didn't want to try it (insurance etc as well).

To date, I can't recall hearing anyone want to replace the rear console with a bucket but, it's an idea. Unfortunately, I think, like the bucket/bench swap, it's going to be a beast and may pose similar risks and challenges.

If you do investigate this further and find out anything, be sure to let us know.

Also, be sure to drop in on the KING RANCH forum!

Has anyone ever tried to remove the buckets from a Super Crew KR and replace them with a bench?
I'll check on Monday, but typically the only trim option that has any effect on the body shop is the moon roof.
Unique sheet metal parts and assemblies based on trim options add complexity and cost.
I seriously doubt there is a unique floor pan or pan assembly for a KR.
I'll post again when I get a positive answer.

Nope, I stand corrected.
There is a unique floor pan assembly for the P225 KR.
With that said, from what I can gather, the bench seat SHOULD fit in the KR, but the KR seats and console will not fit directly into the XLT.
