Unhappy Auto Transmission Shifter

Hello People!

I have a 1997 auto tranny, the plastic end part on the transmission shifter is breaking off about two inches back from the button where you turn the Overdrive off.

I'm worried where I'm going to have to replace the whole shifter, or perhaps I can apply some glue to prevent it from breaking off.

Any suggestions? Will this affect in any way the transmission?

I could not be happier after I changed both the intake and front cover gaskets on time before any damage could happen to the engine (Thanks AJ Ragno, Talleywhacker, Tall Tom G).

Thanks to everybody for the feedback!

Robert

If you're gonna glue it, I recommend using "Future glue," that stuff is strong. I broke off a piece of the trim on my car's door one time, and I glued it back in place w/ that stuff, you couldn't even tell i broke it off
