Removing Rear Seat Back on Ext Cab

Anyone know how to remove the seat back (the vertical portion of seat) on a 2000 Extended Cab? Seems like I read somewhere you just pull up. Is this true? Any answers, advice, would be appreciated. I am planning on applying some sound deadening material to the area behind the seat, since it's just painted metal, no insulation, etc.

There's a couple of little U shaped wires on the bottom of the seat back that I think you have to push towards the back of the cab to disengage. After you do that all you have to do is lift and the seatback will come right out. I'm doing this from memory so I might be a little off but I know it doesn't take any tools and it only takes a couple minutes. Let me know if the deadening makes a difference. I did my 4 doors but I didn't do the back of the cab. I think I'm going to in the spring if it ever gets warm here! Good luck.

Theres a few 10mm bolts holding it in with tabs on the bottom of the seat back. Then you can slide it up and out.

Kidtriton, what year is your truck? I didn't remember any bolts holding my seatback on so I checked my service manual. For a 2000 there's no bolts. Just push the bottom of the seatback in and lift.

well mine is currently a 2002, but ive had 4 97's, 2 98's, 1 00, 4 01's and 3 02's. But honestly, the last truck i ever took a seatback out of was a 97 to get the cd changer out to send it off at work. I know the 97 had bolts, so i guess they changed it sometime after that.

Yeah, there are 2 bolts along the bottom of the seat. You have to lift up the carpet piece to see them. Remove those bolts and then just lift up on the seat back and it comes right out.
