I have a 2006 f150 and want to install a led light bar in the lower bumper, has anyone else did this before and what did you use, I see sizes 22 and 20 inch and from 30 dollars to 300
On my 2007, the brackets connecting the frame to the bumper mounts, there are a couple of large holes which just about line up at the same level as the opening in the bumper. A couple of washers and lock washers will hold the light bar mounting legs.
Generic 20" or 22" light bars are actually the same. Some measure the light bar itself, other sellers measure from the mounting bracket ends. As I recall, Almost every one of those light bars draw 4 - 5 amp, or somewhere in the range of 50 - 60 watt. I'm not a qualified low voltage, direct current electrician. I've installed all of mine with 7.5 A fuses, and have never had a problem Refer to a manual like Ugly's, and ask experienced installers about things like wire gauge selection and fusing. You could use a relay. Most people suggest it. I use a heavy duty toggle switch.
On my truck, I moved the light back to the push bumper. Because I wanted to reinstall the front license plate, and did not want the license plate to obstruct the light.
