I understand your point. It's very hard to do apples to apples when most of us are replacing 2+ year old bulbs with brand new. In that case even the "green" bulbs would probably be an improvement.
If anyone has cars that use 9006 bulbs there are 80 watt ones on clearance at rockauto for $2.70 each... also 100w 9005's. I'd HIGHLY recommend you install a relay kit with a bulb like this or you have a pretty good chance of smoking a wire. If you're interested, you can find them in 2006 toyota matrix, though loads of cars use 9005 and 9006, this car uses both.
It looks like one of the "HID kit" makers now has what looks to be a good LED kit that is available in 9008/H13. I requested a discount unt, so if I get it I'll share my results... the list price is around $90 though so it better throw better than stock light IMO.

For those H13 LEDs bulbs don't waste your time for $90 all you are going to get is something for looks with 0 output.... Save your money.
And if we measured bulb brightness in kelvins instead of lumens, everything you wrote above might mean something.
A 4200k bulb putting out 2800l is going to wipe the floor with a 5500k bulb putting out 2200l.
Bulb temperature and bulb brightness are not the same thing.

These bulbs are marketed as brighter and whiter. They love to use the Kelvin scale to fool a lot of people into thinking they're actually brighter.
I think you missed my point. Nowhere did I mention lumens and I never said 5500k is brighter than 2200k. I simply stated, you'd notice a difference. That difference would be the color.

I know none of us have 9005 or 9006 but don't waste your money on 75w or 100w when you can run HIRs ( halogen Infared) bulbs with more lumens, and same wattage and amperage without added heat ( like those over driven 100w do).

For 90 cents I'll happily give them a try. If they're garbage I'd probably still send them back though. I don't see why we're unable to make LED headlights. I've got a few LED flashlights that throw an AMAZING amount of light. I suppose the root problem is the same as with HIR conversions. Our housings are meant to have a bulb of X and Y dimensions throwing light in a 360* circular patern with the tip painted over so it doesn't send light straight forward. It's near impossible to duplicate that with a LED. I'd like to see a LED bulb using 3 10w LEDs in a triangle pattern, no idea if it would work though...

The lighting firm is the only reputable place to get them, you can find them on amazon, but they could be fakes.
