yeah thats how my turn signals are. i got mine when they came with my switchbacks from v-leds and i believe the wires are long enough to reach from the third brake light to the dome light since mines just a reg cab, but with these new ones i ordered theres always a chance they have built in resistors so i may not need one. where'd you mount the one for your third brake light?

the way i did mine (i didn't want to splice into the factory wires) the led brake light came with the plug that plugs into the factory wiring. i cut the wires on the load resistor shorter and soldered the wires off of the load resistor into the wires on the brake light, not the factory wiring. when the light is installed the load resistor is very close to the back of the cab and touching nothing. you do have to keep in mind that the load resistor will get hot when the brake is being pressed, the longer you hold the brake, the hotter it gets.

on the dome light, does it stay hot? or just when the light is on?

only when the light is on or being used. that is when current is flowing through it

When replacing bulbs with leds, the only ones that even need resistors are the turn signals. That's because your truck will make them hyperflash because it thinks there are bulb(s) out, as a result of using less power. Your 3rd brake light and dome lights don't need resistors.
I wouldn't put a resistor in your 3rd, it will take more power away from it in theory. Check to see if your light could be leaking and ruining the circuitboards. FWIW I have always heard the Recon 3rd don't light up well anyway, they are mainly for looks and you lose brightness.
BTW resistors get very hot, that;s why I just bought the flasher to correct all my problems.

what ridin is referring to for the 3rd brake light, when he plugged it into the factory wiring, turned the key on, the light lit up but was dim without pushing the brake pedal. i had the same issue and also the cruise didn't work. i called the manufacture back and they informed me that it didn't have a resistor built in and i had to add one. i installed it and it fixed the problem, a flasher will not fix this problem, they are only good for the turn signals. it doesn't make it "dim" at all, the 3rd brake light on mine is as bright as the light bar, maybe brighter. there are pics in my album, but not sure how to get them here.

Got ya. I would have though for the money you're paying for those 3rds, they would have $.50 resistors in them. The cruise wouldn't work then because the light was always on a little bit, canceling cruise? That's a Recon fail right there IMO. lol

You're right, a flasher will not fix that problem, that is only for the turns.

BTW, I have leds in everything you can on our trucks and the only problem I ever had was hyperflashing, which that EP-27 flasher fixed.

yea, with the light lit dim, i guess it was sending a false signal and wasn't allowing the cruise to work. i don't think mine is Recon, but not sure, i think i paid around $40 for it. it's been on the truck for almost 2 years, but you're right, it should have had a resistor already installed on it somewhere. the rear tail lights had the resistors already installed on them, so i really didn't need the flasher, but since i bought it, i installed as well.

Or this: http://www.stylintrucks.com/part.asp...8&scid=FROOGLE

The reason cruise control doesn't work from my understanding is beause leds reduce the load and the the sensor looks for load. Because of this the cruise doesn't work.

W=VxA, so 50W @ 12V = 4.17A

A 15W resistor would be massive overkill.
