Heated Seat Question

I now have my 2003 Lariat and I ordered heated leather buckets. This is the first vehicle I have ever had with heated seats and I really like them when they are on.

Can someone tell if if it is normal for the seats to only heat for a period of time (5 to 10 minutes) and then shut off. If after this period I still want heat on the seat, I have to reach down and turn it on again. Is there no way to keep these things on, or are they not working properly?

And, can anyone comment on why they wouldn't put some sort of an indicator light on the dash to tell you when the heaters are on or off? Right now I have to cup my hand beside the switch on the seat and look for the amber glow of the little light on the switch. BTW, this only works at night and of course I have to take my eyes off the road to do this. Is all this normal?

For what I paid for them as an option I would think they could come up with a better set up than this.

Any comments?

Yes they are on a timer, probably 10 to 15 minutes is about right. I agree it would be nice to have an indicator on the dash, but I really have no problem knowing when they are on. Its sort of a seat of the pants feeling!!!!!!!

Thanks for the feedback.

I've got a bad disk in my lower back and the heated seats are a marvel, making long trips much more enjoyable. I just wish there was a way to keep them on longer, as it seems like I am forever turning them back on. In any event, I am sold on them and every vehicle I buy in the future will have them for sure!

Thanks again!

I have a 2002 Lariat with the heated seats.

Is there a timer on these ? Should the indicator light go off after the 15 minutes ?

I have not noticed any timer off function only a ignition key off reset feature. The seat actually gets too hot for the wife. I wife have to test this and report back.

My 2001 KR has heated front seats and they DO NOT have a timer. In fact, if you leave them on long enough, you'll have to hoover above the seat because it's so darn hot... talk about a roaster! LOL!

Might be a roaster but it's super nice on the cold mornings and afternoons leaving work!
