A/C always on?

The A/C in my truck seems to always be on. If I have it set to panel or panel/floor and the temp scale moved to cold. IT'S COLD!

If it's 90 outside the air coming out of the vents is nearly as cold as the A/C. I really hate to complain since I don't have to use the A/C settings, but is my A/C compressor really running all this time? Is it costing me mileage? I can't tell from looking under the hood what the thing is doing. It heats and defrosts fine.

Anyone else experience this?

99 F150 XLT SCab
5.4 4x4 ORP
Gibson Super Truck Exhaust
K&N filters
Husky floor liners (it is a truck after all)
Ford vent visors and bug shield
Ford Tonneau cover
Cupped and tread bare Goodyear 17 inch tires

Stock CD and speakers (when you have the Super Truck exhaust, what better music is there?)

If you set it to Panel & Floor it WILL run the compressor. However, it's not suppose to run if you use just Floor or Panel.
Every other setting will engage the compressor, even the Defrost settings.

Talking Indyfan correct

Indyfan is correct,.... the engineers wired it to run the compressor on all settings except PANEL or FLOOR. I heard this was done to help prevent glass fogging, I find it annoying.

A/C always on

I had the same question myself. Ford could have done a better job labeling these controll functions. Guess the same engineer that did the oil guage did the HVAC controlls.

I also find the lack of an 'off' position for the fan speed switch a little annoying. I liked using the 'vent' and no fan when weather allowed in other vehicles I owned.

Still love my truck but it is the little things that keep it from being THE ultimate truck of all time.

Why put excessive icons on the controls?

You're given a book with you're vehicle for a reason, please read it.
