Adding Compressor Switch
#2
Certainly (2000 F150 XLT):
Pull out the AC control box.
On the back you will see several plugs. The one you need is next to the vaccum line plug on the back of the rotary mode switch.
Find the purple wire coming out of the plug and cut it.
Wrap / insulate the wire remnand on the plug.
Wire a switch between the wire harness purple wire and +12vdc. (the lite blue/pink wire on the same harness carries 12v into the AC box and you can tap into it.)
Radio shack makes a nice rockerswitch with built in red LED.
I used a small pushbutton switch and a 12v green LED and build everything into the AC control box.
Note that the compressor remains on even if the AC switch is in the OFF position - that's what the LED is for.

What I did was just pull out the A/C fuse, and wire in 2 female plugs into the the fuse prongs with an inline fuse and underdash switch. This allows the A/C switch to operate normally. I've been thinking of mounting the underdash switch where Fritz did. BTW Fritz, do you know how to make a dead post in the the fan switch so I can turn it off?
