Planning on removing the AC Compressor this weekend and install the bypass pulley as the AC pulley is really noisy and I don't want it to seize up while I'm driving. Anybody done this and have any pointers? I looked under it tonite. It looks hard enough to get to as it is but I don't see that it would actually come out of the engine compartment once unbolted without taking some other stuff apart. Looks to big to drop down thru the bottom, got steering linkage in the way. Any help would be appreciated. thx

 

By the time you do all that, you'd have been better off to simply replace the bad pulley.

 

Oh absolutely! Was in the same position last year- about an hour and a half with an extra set of hands, right on the street in front of the house and it was done!

 

Ya that would make sense if the compressor was still good, but it's been bad for a couple years so no reason to spend money putting a $100 pulley on a bad compressor when I can put a $40 pulley in instead. Hey, already got it out, took less than 30 minutes so it's wasn't as big a deal as it thought it might be!

 

Am looking into doing the same thing on my 98' F150 with 4.6 V8. Did the bypass pulley need any extra hardware to get it aligned right or just bolt right onto old surface?

 

The bypass pulley should come with a bracket and mounting hardware.
