"Hidden" A/C on?

I just would prefer a button to turn on/off the compressor in any mode, if the windows fog up I can hit the button. So the "MAX A/C" does the same thing as pushing the Recirculate & A/C button while in the "dash vent" mode?

Another thing I've noticed is speeds 1-3 seem a a lot lower than the 4th speed. It's almost like they used too high of a resistor value for the lower speeds. I hope this is normal and not an indication of a potential resistor problem.
There is NOTHING wrong with your truck..this is the way it's designed. Yes, if you turn the temp **** up in defrost..wala !!! you get hot DRY air for defrosting !! There is a jump on the #4 fan speed which is quite noticeable..again, NORMAL OPERATION. It's designed that way for convenience in the defrost cycle mode. I suppose one could fab up an on-off switch for the AC, why on earth anyone would want to is beyond me. The system works quite well the way it's designed, which, by the way I believe every vehicle built works the same way.

think of the A/c compressor running as a "dryer" then even though the air temp is lowered "gets cold" the heater core is open and the air is "reheated" that is how the air gets dry and the window is defrosted/defogged.. the warm air hits the windshield water gets picked up in the air and taken back to the inside coild the cold coil "wrings out" moisture from the air. then the air hits the heater coil and the temp is reheated to make the cab comfortable and to defrost/dehumidify for the operator based on your choosing the dial position you want.

If the outside air temp is below 40F, the compressor isn't operating much anyway....

Does the truck run the A/C when you're trying to melt the ice off your windshield in the winter. On older vehicles low temperatures would prevent the low pressure cycling switch from activating.
my 97 ranger i had would run A/C on both A/C functions, defrost, and also if you turned it to the "panel and floor" setting. if you did panel only or floor only it would be outside temp air. on panel and floor setting it would kick on the compressor and i would get cold air. also if you use max A/C you are most likely going to have to recharge you A/C sooner than the re-cycling the air option. by the way, the re-cycling works great in the winter with the heater. i did mine the other day after not using it for a few days and it got really hot in my cab. probably at least 15 degrees hotter than not using it. and the temps were between 30 and 40 outside on all days.
I THINK my 04 heritage did the same with the panel and floor setting but not sure. the more i think about it, the more i think it didnt have that happen. i know my 08 doesnt do it tho. but also the thermostat dial is messed up in my 08 now, pretty much since it had about 10k on it...just got used to it i guess lol
