Thermostat gaskets

I did do a search but found nothing on this particular subject. I want to change my thermostat after 83K miles and this is the 1st time I have ever seen a rubber o-ring. I have always had older cars with paper gaskets. I have a Supercharger and I do see a paper gasket but the guy at the auto parts store says it's not needed and the o-ring is it. I have a tube of RTV (always baby) just in case but are both gaskets needed? Can I just use a new o-ring and that's it? Thanks in advance for the answer.

All you need is the o-ring, no paper gasket needed. What supercharger are you installing?
