Thermostat Install Question

Do you have to drain any coolant to change thermostat? Never changed a thermostat on any vehicles I've owned. It looks pretty straight forward. I have a 2004 FX4 w/ 5.4 liter

Typically a little, just to get the level below the thermostat - so you don'y loose any.
