heat and overheat issues

Ok, here is my 8 week saga......97 f150 4.6 120k miles, never any issues with cooling system until now.....took it to local shop, here is what they did so far..

Original problem: very low heat output at idle, coolant stained brown.

Flushed coolant system, replaced thermostat. No change.

Flushed coolant system, replaced thermostat again. No change.

Replaced heater core. Problem changes.

New problem: Cabin heat will vary anywhere between 100 and 120 deg. Not consistent from day to day. Sometimes while driving, truck loses all cabin heat, after a few minutes, temp gauge goes from normal to max immediately, coolant runs out of overflow tank. I shut off engine for a few minutes then gauge is back to normal level, heat is back.

Replaced water pump (found that impeller blades were gone due to erosion), replaced thermostat to failsafe type, replaced overflow cap to Motorcraft. Replaced alternator due to dying while test-driving. Pressure flushed coolant to make sure no air pocket. No change.

Replaced radiator. No change.

Quick update. Took it to larger auto shop today. They did gases test on coolant. Determined without a doubt its blown head gasket. Tear down starts today. Ugh.
