Angry Turn this AC OFF!!!

Anyone figured out how you can turn the darn AC off while on window or floor vents? I dont WANT the AC running all the time. Seems like you could wire in a cutoff switch and mount it in your dash, and have a CHOICE.

Talking

If I remember correctly someone put a swich in line with the purple wire behind the AC control panel.
Yeah I think it sucks the way Ford did the Force AC considering every other AC car I've owned had a button for AC operation.
The Button system is much better IMHO.
It even lights up when the AC is on.

Cool

The reason Ford runs the compressor in all modes but panel and floor is to extend the life of the a/c compressor and system. It also helps with defrosting of the windows a bit faster. On older vehicles the a/c compressor wasn't turned until that first hot summer day, and surprise it didn't work. By running the compressor when on defrost or mix modes it keeps the seals and bearings lubrictaed and the refrigerant moving through the system.

Also by running the a/c on defrost mode it removes moisture from the incoming air and like fordfixer said, defrosts faster.

I actually did the modification on my 99 F150, no A/C unless the control was set to A/C or MAX A/C. Worked well, sold the truck 2 years ago.
