EATC swap mostly a success

Well I decided to take on the EATC swap last week. I got it done. Have everything mounted and it works. There is only one slight problem. My a/c compressor is always on. It cycles like it should normally, but when I turn off the a/c demand button the compressor still cycles. I tried switching the old a/c demand wire to the UBP buss setup like all the other posts say. The only problem is that when it is set up like that the compressor wont cycle at all. I have a controller from a 2008 F150 w/o heated seats. I looked through all the wiring diagrams that I have, but cannot find any info on another a/c demand pin. I read somewhere about pin 9 on the C228A connector being a/c demand, if anyone can look at a pinout diagram for the connector and let me know what I am overlooking I would really appreciate it.

Oh BTW I have a list of part numbers for all the components if anyone wants. I'm gonna do a stem by step writeup once I get this last bit figured out.

Also, if anyone with EATC can tell me where the white tube from the in-cab sensor goes that would be a big help too.

wow congrats on getting it mostly working...sorry i cant help you with the ac demand wire, but on my fx4 lux package with eatc, my sensor tube is mounted on the bottom right of the panel that goes around the gauges. its about level with the ign switch. you will probably need to get a gauge cluster surround from a lariat or fx4 lux package, unless you want to cut slits in your current panel.

Right, I got the sensor mounted in the gauge cluster surround, but where does the other end of the tube go? Does it go into the hvac case somewhere? I just need to know where the other end is supposed to be hooked up.

I'm at the wiring stage of my EATC swap in my Lightning. I took the airbox out of a '99 Expedition. In my case, the other end of the ambient air temp sensor tube goes to the box just underneath the glove box.

What year truck is yours? I'm trying to figure out where a few wires get spliced to in my Lightning (Like the SPC + and -).

Can't wait to see your how to!

Here's mine as she sits right now:

I have a 2007. Everything is in place and it functions rather well. I was able to work out a few things and came to the conclusion that I either need to get the cluster reprogrammed, deal with the compressor staying in a demand state or devise some switch or relay circuit that I can integrate into the panel. I was thinking of finding the circuit that controls the a/c display light and run a small reed style relay off that to control the a/c demand wire. The OEM a/c demand wire supplies +12v from the instrument cluster to the a/c controlls. I need to figure out a way that I can interrupt that signal while the compressor is not needed and ground it when I do need cooling. I have a few ideas running through my head, just need to see what the best one is.

qurttrn10- as far as your wiring goes I think it will be completely different from mine as far as a/c demand goes. I found a few connector diagrams just from googling different phrases. Thats the best I can do.

No worries - I'll still be looking forward to the writeup and pics!

OK so after some thought, I'm not gonna try and put a solenoid in the a/c panel. Here comes an odd request. Can someone with EATC already installed in a 2007-08, preferably an FX4 however a KR or Lariat should suffice, please PM me their VIN so I can have a dealership program my cluster for EATC. I know it sounds wierd and I'm not expecting anyone to actually do it, but I thought I would give it a shot. Thanks In advance if anyone has the sack to give up their VIN.

Just go to eBaymotors, and find pics of a truck that has what you need. Each listing shows that vehicle's VIN. That's how I was able to find most of my parts.

Good luck!

I'd like to get all those part numbers.

About how long did it take you and how much did everything cost?

Thanks man and congrats on the "mostly done" swap.

well it looks like getting a list of part numbers or a basic write up is too hard to come by so i think im going to go to my dealer soon and have them look up the system for a f150 w/ EATC and tell me what i would need.

I'm sorry that my project won't help because I'm doing it to a '03.

I needed new:

A/C plenum
Blower motor
Blend door
(Made sense to put in new evaporator and heater core while in there)
Interior temp sensor
Exterior temp sensor
Sunload temp sensor
Wiring harness
EATC headunit
Dash bubble
Radio surround
Radio mounting bracket
Surfboard dash panel

I stalled out while working on the wiring, moving over to work on my DD, so I haven't messed with finishing the wiring yet. Give yourself lots of time. Your application may not need some of the parts I did, and you may need a lot more. ???

Good luck!

If buying a used EATC head unit, be very careful that you know the exact vehicle it came from. They changed the functions slightly, although the outside (even plugs) look the same. The wiring harness will have to match the EATC unit.
