Antifreeze smell
Antifreeze smell
Good morning all,
I have a 2002 F150, I am getting a strong smell of antifreeze inside the cab of the truck, esp when I run the A/C. I am not showing any signs of moisture inside the cab, I am getting a fog on the windshield. After letting the truck run for awhile or after a 30+ min drive I am getting a normal coolant runnoff under the truck and when I put a black light to it it glows decently. I am ready to replace the heater core but I was wondering if there is anything else this might be, before I spend an entire day tearing the dash out and hopefully putting it back together in the same day.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Rik

I am having this same problem with my 2002 Supercrew FX4, though I don't see any coolant leaks under the truck, and my windshield is not fogging up. The smell comes and goes, not everyday, only once a week or so, and usually for about 5 or 10 minutes.
No one has any ideas?

Yeah, it would seem so. Don't know how much time I've got before it goes completely, but I want to start getting the parts together to try and do it myself. I have a friend who is a mechanic, he owes me, so hopefully he will give me a hand.
There are some links to instructions on both blend door and heater core replacement here on this forum, but I seem to be having a difficult time looking at them. When I click on the link, or first save it to my pc, it wants the document to be opened in wordpad, then gives me an error message saying "unable to load graphics conversion filter." How can I look at these instructions?
If I take the time to pull down the dash to get to the heater core, should I just go ahead and replace the blend door and actuator?
