Ac problem- 98stx

My air works. It works real good, when it works. BUT... when I turn the temp. control to hot I get full hot. If I change it to cold, I still get full hot. If I leave the temp. control on full cold, and start the truck the next day, I will still get full heat most times. But usually on the second day of not touching the temp. control I will get nice cold air! It will work forever, until I need I heat... then the process starts all over again. Weird.... any suggestions?

Check for a busted blend door.

It's not the blend door. I have checked for that MANY times. I believe it may be the switch itself

How did you check the blend door?

By getting down on the floor, putting an ear as close as I could to where the blend door is, and listening for it while changing the temp control back and forth from cold to hot. I heard nothing.

Definitely sounds like an air distribution problem. To be sure, next time that you get nothing but heat, crank your AC on the max position, pop you hood and grab the
accumulator to see if it's cold. If it isn't cold, you have an ac problem.
If it is cold, you have an air distribution problem.

Air distribution problems could result from: a binding blend door,
sticking blend door actuator, or the switch itself.
My experiences have had more blend door issues than actuators or switches.
I think the only way you are going to find the exact problem would be to check the
functionality of the switch and the actuator. You may need to remove the actuator and see if the blend door has a crack where the actuator is splined into the door.
