A/C losing its "cool"
A/C losing its "cool"
Well, its that time of year again in Louisiana to start using the A/c. I turned my A/c on for the first time in a while last week and I noticed it wasn't cooling like it should. I checked the Freon(sp?) level and it was a little below where it should be so I added about half a can to keep it in the safe zone. I tried it again today and it's still not blowing as cold as it should. The compressor still kicks on and off as it should so hopefully theres no problem with it. Also, the heater still works perfectly. Any ideas?
Does the compressor cycle frequently? My 99 developed a hose leak last year at the begining of summer. High pressure side at the compressor manifold. Replaced the hose and it still works. I'd check for a leak somewhere, a shop can dye it. Usually if you are leaking there will be oil around the area also.
Yea the compressor is cycling on and off very frequently. I'm worried it's gonna burn up so I just dont run it. I'll definitely crawl under it tomorrow and check for leaks. Spent all day under it today installing my new exhaust so the concrete is a 2'nd bed to me. Thanks for the reply.
What year is this truck? Your freon level cannot be checked without proper equipment.
Judging from your symptom and the frequent cycle of the compressor clutch, it seems you have a refrigerant leak. If you have a blacklight, you may be able to use that in finding the source for the leak. Although, the tracer may have washed away if it has been any lengthened period of time since it leaked out. Keep us posted!
