Just used the writeup done by MSTASZEW... It took me under 5 hours to do the whole thing. The pictures helped a lot... They're so much better than the simple illustrations in the original write-up....

Thanks!

If you are replacing the heater core and the heater hoses simultaneously, no need to take them apart the correct way, just cut those bad boys off at the inlet/outlet to the heater core and just disassemble them that way

my 99 F150 had the same fate, so i used the word doc to replace it. Spectacular instructions! I had two bolts at the top of the dash under pop up trim covers, but the rest was exactly the same. I dont do a lot of my own work, but this way too expensive to pay to have done.

The ford dealer didnt have a part number for the replacement o rings and snap connector for the hose. But, the helpful guy behind the counter knew what i was talking about and sold me ford part # E692 18D434B, two rubber o-rings, one plastic o-ring and the snap connector for the hose (you'll need 2 and they were $15 each)

Thanks for the instrcutions that easily saved me $800.

Just wanted to say THANKS for the info and the doc for replacement was great. Changed mine out last weekend on my 2001 F-150, only took 6 1/2 hours with system flush. Could not have went so well if i did not have this forums help. Tip stop at Auto Zone for their loaner heater hose removal tool, $20.00 dep.needed till returned.

Again THANKS for the great info.

i have it in a word document... if you can find a converter to open on your mac, i'll email it over... otherwise I could probably convert it to PDF where you could open with Adobe Acrobat reader.

I am the owner of that website and confirm that the link is still good.

Here is the link reposted just in case:

http://www.nator.net/files/Heater Core Replacement.doc

The server is Apache and the link is case sensitive. Verify that you are entering the link exactly in the case shown or click the link. If you are able to download the file is is ~2.3mb. If you can't view it then you need an application to do so. MS Office for Mac and Open Office should both handle this. If you have another office suite then I'm afraid you are on your own. I own and like the iPhone and that's about where my admiration and love of Apple ends. :-)

My core was leaking and as I live in SW Florida, I don't really need the heater so I cut and spliced the hoses under the hood to bypass the core. My problem is the airflow is only coming out through the defrost vents. Any way to fix this? If I can manually change it to just coming out the dash vents, that would be better.

Does anyone have this document? The link is broken.
Its time to do my 02 heater core and it sounds like this document is key to a successful job.

Ray Stacy, send me a private message and include your email address. My domain, nator.net, has expired. I want to move the file, but have been lazy. I'll email it to you this weekend.

I did this and it worked great. But now I am blowing hot again. I suspect the blend door is broken. Please, if you do the heater core, do the blend door too!!!! Or you will probably end up pulling your dash twice!!!
To the author of this, please amend your document to recommend replacing the blend door.
