Perhaps bad heater core...

Hello, about a year and half ago I replaced the heater core in my '98 F150 4.6. I got in it the other morning, started it and began to pull out of my driveway. Then, I heard what sounded like trickling water coming from my dash. Next, the oh so pleasant sweet aroma of antifreeze permeated my air conditioned breeze. Does this sound like the tragic end to another heater core? And if so, what the crap did I do to cause one to go bad after only a year and a half? This is very frustrating. Please help.

Thanks,

Tim

Yeah, sounds like a heater core leak. If so, you might have an "electrolysis" situation.

However, it might be something as simple as a heater core leak under the hood. Check that host above the #4 cylinder, it's a common leaker.

Hey T.C., did you ever get your problem fixed? I have the exact problem with my 98 F150 4.6. I paid mucho buckos to have my heater core replaced and then about 16 months later, same thing (heater core has 12 month warranty). What did the problem wind up being on your truck? Thanks, Dave.
