I have a 2003 F150, when I first turn on my AC it some times takes 3 0r 4 minuets to come on, it don't do it all the time ,but here lately it's been doing it more often.Once the AC comes on it works just fine.

Do you have the Auto temp control like in the pic ? If so, may be a problem with control unit.

first step could be to just check your charge. thats the easiest thing to test.

what they mean by check the charge is to take it and have the ammount of freon checked.

My 04 F150 was not cooling properly so i had it checked and it was low when i got there it was cooling at 53 degree's, By the time i left it was at 43 and dropping.

If the charge is low i bellieve there is a switch that will stop it from coming on. it might be right at the limit
