The official Blend Door thread
actuator
Actually, I did take mine apart, which worked intermittently and could have swapped out the gears, but there are contacts on the gear, I bought a new one. Swapped it out at the dealer, it was boxed wrong.
How can I be sure I have blend door problem. Heat hasn't worked for 3 years. I live in fl so not much of a problem except when I travel up north in the winter. Also I see people replacing heater core. Don't seem to have that issue but if I do open up the dash should I do it as preventative. Truck has 281,000 miles. Thanks for the help
Possible "Blend Door" problems
I have a 1998 Expedition with possible Blend Door Issue:
Problem:
Heat only blows for about a minute then turns cool/ambient
1. AC works great
2. Temp Control switch/**** seems to work correctly. I removed center console and enough dash items to view actuator motor. The axle or what ever it drives rotates when changing temp control from cold to heat
3. Had coolant system flushed and new Thermostat intalled
4. Had heater core lines checked with laser temp gage after flush & therm change and Mech said no problem with heatercore but thought the fan clutch was no good, running on high full time. I let him replace it too; $300.00 later still have same problem.
5. Mech was puzzled; didn't really want to mess with Blend Door
Any suggestions out there before I spend a day or two taking apart the dash to see what the motor drives, shifts or moves is broken?

My 2008 KR Screw went in five times for this. Three times they thought I was crazy. Once it was greased with "special grease", which I am certain was bullshoot. The last time after I raised the roof in the dealership on a noce busy day, it was replaced. Now, with the 2008 F-350, I have the exact same issue. Been to the dealer (on a drive by) twice, and I won't get it replaced... I'll trade the truck off soon. I can't believe they can't get these stupid parts right after, well, ten years?
I've got a 2008 XLT Screw and started having problems with mine a couple of weeks ago. I have the manual controls. When I put the climate control at the 9 o'clock position, it blows HOT as if all the way in the red. If I put it at the 8 o'clock position, it blows cold. Sometimes to get it to cool, I have to go completely to the left. It's either cold or hot, no nothing inbetween. Sometimes, it just blows hot.
Im doing it in a 99 now. A little different than most guys here though. I'm repairing the broken door axle, and making the door manually operated from here on out. I will be removing the actuater moter for good. This will be like the ol skol heaters that were dependable. Tired of being a victum of over-eigneering!
There's a good possabiltly if you replace the door that it will brake again.

Cool
I may try something like that on my 1998 Expedition. I'm trying to find a replacement part for the door before I remove the dash but no luck so far. I'm not sure if the door or what is broken but I do know the motor is turning the axle about 90 degree each way when manual Temp Control know is turned from full cool to full hot.

You can tell if the door is broken or about to brake.
You will not be able to do this procedure with a new stock door though!
Im doing this procedure with a ALTERED repaired door!
