Radiator Flush

I have a 2001 5.4L. Would like to here thoughts about doing a radiator flush from an independent shop. I'm guessing the radiator flush is something like what they would do for a trans flush, but I don't know. Good idea or not?

I go to the quick oil change center and have them do it on all my vehicles. Takes about 10 mins. and the part I like the most is no mess to clean up. Runs about 50 bucks around here and I get it done every 60,000 miles.

I just did it on my wifes 2001 Expy 5.4 and it was pretty straight forward. Most people overlook this simple preventative maintenance step. I once heard a mechanic say to do it every season, but that may be excessive. I do it when the coolant gets ugly or doesnt smell like coolant anymore.

You can do it yourself with a few gallons of antifreeze and some distilled water. Or you can purchase 50/50. That would be cheeper than paying someone for 10 minutes of work. You could get away for half of the $50 they normally charge.

But to answer your question... No, I have not had any heater core problems afterwards or ever.

Good luck, and I hope this may have helped. Do a search for some simple instructions on how to do it yourself and save the money.
