AC Trouble Please Help!!!

jonezb has a post and it pretty much describes my situation, it all started back in the fall with a ticking sound, and now this weekend it is loud roaring, rattling, pretty crazy really. Here it is tomorrow Christmas eve, lots of driving to do in the next few days, and all money spent on gifts. I was wondering if I could simply put a non A/C belt on the truck until I can get to fixing it right. If anyone knows, please let me know as this is my only vehicle on the road, too much snow and ice for the Mustang. I am hopeful everything is the same and I can switch out the belts, would the tensioner, etc.. all be in the same positions? Thanks in advance. Truck is a 2000 F150 XLT 4x4. with the 4.6L engine.

This is with AC:

This is without AC:

#7 is the Tensioner on each diagram
Think you would have to remove the AC [#8] and the tensioner. Don't know if you can put your existing tensioner in the position shown in the diagram but the parts store can check the numbers. I would guess the pulley wheel is larger and ribbed on the non AC.

the loud rattling your prolly hearing is the pulley on the compressor. I just bought one from ford today because my truck was making a similar noise. first a light ticking then a knocking now it sounds like a glass of marbles being shaken. the new part costs about 89$ from ford. the part number for my truck, a 99 4.6 was F6TZ19D784A im taking it to my mechanic tomorrow because my Power steering pump needs replaced anyways so he may as well put on the new pulley while all that mess is taken apart. likely wont cost more than an hour's labor for the pulley. ill let you know if the pulley fixes the issue, though i have little doubt it wont fix it.

picked up the pulley from ford, go figure the clutch assy is a whole other part. the complete kit runs about 170 ish, i got it from napa for 150, autozone said it would be an order only item taking a week. . make sure you order the complete kit not just the pulley.

You can order the hub, the pulley, or the coil individually or you can order all three as a kit.

The coil is seldom needed so most order the hub and the pulley. About $100 from Rockauto.
