Sounds like you have a hole in your heater core.

Thanks for your reply. How big is that problem? I also noticed today that the rattling noises are only or much louder when the HVAC control is switched off.

The heater core leaks and drains out above the exhaust. That is the hissing sound you hear. I just replaced mine, big job but there are some good instructions floating around on this site. Core was about $60. Took about 8 hours start to finish, not counting lunch break. Dash muct come almost all the way out to get to it. Might also want to consider changing the blend door actuator while you are in there.

Thanks for your reply. What is the blend door actuator? I also have a problem with my passenger door not locking with the remote or the power locks.

Blend door actuator(motor) blends the cold and hot air for the heat system. when you remove the dash you will have to remove the blend door to take out the heater core. The door sits on the motor to move back and forth. Many have had problems with this part. I changed mine jsut because I was in there with the dash removed. As far as the passenger door goes that is probably a lock solenoid problem.
