Idle Air control valve
Idle Air control valve
Hey guys,
another post...
Ok, so the other day, my truck is rolling down the street and I turn the A/C on...and my RPMs drop to 400-500... My wife drove the truck before me and the RPMs dropped off and it actually died.....so, I call around and 3 mechanics tell me it's the idle air control valve....
$50 later, the new valve doesn't fix the problem. Per the Chilton manual, the resistance and voltage from the valve and the power source from both valves is correct and so the problem isn't the valve.....what the hell else could it be?
Between the truck dying and blowing out huge plumes of grey smoke, I'm about to go drive the truck off the highest mountain in Oklahoma...
Anyway, I appreciate anything you guys could offer.
Thanks!

What type/year of truck? I dont know what it is about Fords, but I dont think I've ever had one that idles well for years in a row, it is always causing problems. On my old F-150 I replaced the IAC Valve, the Mass Air Flow Sensor, the throttle position sensor, cleaned the engine with everything I could find, tried new oil, new gas, new fuel filter, etc. and it still idled for crap.
I second the A/C bieng tested, seems too coincidental. All I know about the IAC is that it makes the engine run rough during cold weather start up, not much problems in the heat. Some actually make a buzzing noise before going kaput.
