Kind of strange issue

Ok guys I have a strange problem going on with my A/C that I cannot figure out. If I am driving down the road with no A/C everything is good. When I first turn on the A/C everything is good. After my truck warms up something begins clicking in and out and my RPM's jump up and down with the clicking. I looked under my hood and it is my clutch starting and stopping. After about 2 minutes of this happening it turns on my service engine light. I can disconnect the battery and clear the light and it will not turn on again until I turn on the A/C. The A/C is cold and everything is good except for that one problem. Any ideas because I cannot find anyone that can seem to figure this out. Thanks in advance for any help.

First, stop disconnecting your battery and have the code read Give us the code and will go from there.

Do I need to go purchase a code reader or will a local shop usually read the code for a cheaper price than what the reader would cost.

I just found another thread in engines where someone had the same exact symptoms as I do and they are saying that it is the IAC valve. I think I am going to go get one tonight and give that a try. I will post back when I find out whether or not that fixes it.

Glad it worked out for you. BTW, I believe Autozone will read the codes for you for free - just in case you have another problem sometime. You may not always be that lucky.
