Blend Door Actuator

1998 F-150 5.4. Airconditioning is blowing Hot air. I think it is either the Blend door, or the actuator. I can hear the motor working when I switch it back and fourth Hot/Cold. So I am told it is possibly the actuator which I assume it is attached to the motor or the Blend door is cracked. I have been told that you do not have to pull the dash to change the actuator. How can I tell if it is the actuator or the door. If it is the actuator how much trouble is it to change. I hate to take it to the dealer. Thanks for any help

Pull the black plastic cover off that goes under the dash and over the tranny hump. You can watch the actuator work. I wouldn't recommend just changing the actuator without knowing the condition of the door.

Is there a way to have the system to default to cold instead of hot ?

Till a person has the time to pull the dash and do a proper job ?
