Automatic Climate Control correct?

Just bought a new F150 Lariat. Temps around Pittsburgh these days in the low 30's. When I start the vehicle I set the ACC to around 72 and put it on auto. The thing is I have to manually intervene and turn down the fan because the truck gets very hot before the thing will kick down to maintain the specified temperature. I could be driving a good ten miles and the thing would not kick off the heat on it's own. Is this normal on these fords? or might there be a bad sensor? No matter what temp I set it to warm the vehicle it gets uncomfortably hot before it will ever kick the heat off. Once the vehicle is warm maybe a good half hour. The auto setting seems to work fine. Any info thoughts or corrections would be appreciated.

Yes it is normal. But yours seems like it takes a long time. Even with the temps in the single digits, after about 2 miles my trucks would start blowing air. The reason being (and I'm assuming this) is that the auto climate control doesn't want to blow cold air at you. So it waits until the truck hits a certain temp and then it starts heating the cab. I've been happy with mine right at 73 degrees.
